SLPP Makes Bold Moves in Latest NEC Meeting: A Step Towards National Unity and Progress!

Freetown, December 16, 2023 – The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has taken decisive steps towards strengthening democracy and fostering national unity, as revealed in their recent press release following the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

In a remarkable gathering at their headquarters in Freetown, the NEC, representing the SLPP’s entire membership, focused on upholding the democratic principles enshrined in the party and national constitutions. The meeting, held on December 16, 2023, emphasized compliance with the laws of Sierra Leone and the party’s dedication to governance and active political engagement.

Key highlights from the meeting include:

  1. Praising Leadership: The NEC congratulates President Julius Maada for his victory in the June 2023 elections, applauding his leadership and wishing him success in his second term.
  2. Promoting Dialogue: Endorsing the Mediated Dialogue with the All Peoples Congress (APC), the NEC formed a committee to work towards implementing dialogue resolutions, fostering interparty collaboration.
  3. Assessing Election Committees: A new committee was formed to review the roles and activities of committees involved in the June 2023 elections.
  4. Reviewing Party Constitution: The NEC also approved a committee to examine the SLPP’s Party Constitution, ensuring it remains relevant and robust.
  5. Filling Executive Vacancies: Several districts will see new executive appointments, highlighting the party’s commitment to representation and leadership at all levels.
  6. Legal and Editorial Appointments: The meeting saw new appointments in legal advisory roles and the managing editor of the Unity Newspaper, showcasing the party’s focus on legal integrity and effective communication.

Furthermore, the NEC recognized the Ghana Chapter of the SLPP as a full branch, subject to membership dues, demonstrating the party’s expanding influence and commitment to unity among Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad.
